The defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers could be looking for a new general manager at the end of this season. David Griffin, their current GM, is currently in the last year of his contract with the team.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert will have to make a decision fairly soon. Will he pay the price for one of the NBA’s top GM’s? Or will he let the man who orchestrated the end of Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought walk away?
There are several teams watching the proceedings between Griffin and the Cavs, including the Orlando Magic, who recently cut ties with their previous GM Rob Hennigan. The Magic have already requested an audience with Griffin, but according to reports, he has not replied.
Earlier this afternoon, Kris Humphries, a soon-to-be free agent, voiced his opinion on Griffin’s contract situation. Humphries says that Gilbert and the Cavs need to either give Griffin a long-term deal, or go ahead and make LeBron James the team’s official GM.
