Cavs continue to ignore Magic’s request to interview GM David Griffin

Whether fans of the team know it or not, Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin is currently in the last year of his contract.

There have been several teams watching the proceedings between Griffin and the Cavs, including the Orlando Magic, who recently cut ties with their previous GM, Rob Hennigan. However, according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio and AmicoHoops, Griffin is “not responding” to their request for a meeting.

As of today, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has not offered Griffin a new contract or extension. With the Cavs in the playoffs once more, it could be just a bad time to discuss contract formalities. After all, Gilbert believes that some sort of an agreement will be reached soon.

The Magic are making Griffin their top candidate to replace Hennigan as their man in charge of basketball operations. The Atlanta Hawks are also after Griffin for their vacancy at the general manager position.

LeBron James has recently come to the defense of Griffin — the man Cavs fans can thank for dishing out more dough than a Pillsbury factory.

Via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin:

“It makes no sense why he shouldn’t get an extension,” James said. “He’s pulled every move. He’s tried to make every move happen, to better this team to be able to compete for a championship. We wouldn’t be in this position, obviously, without him and without the guys that are here — from the coaching staff to the players to Griff. He’s been a big piece of it.”
