LeBron James is easily the best basketball player in the world right now. Many make the case for 2014 MVP Kevin Durant or 2015 MVP Stephen Curry, due to their recent success and ability to endure through hardships, but there really is no question as to who the best basketball player in the world is.
Julius ‘Dr. J.’ Erving doesn’t think that James is on top, however. Not anymore.
“The basketball world is very quick to say he’s the best player in the world, but there’s an argument there with Stephen Curry; there’s an argument there with Kevin Durant,” says Julius Erving. “Those are probably the only ones who could make that claim and get votes.”
“Right now, Curry’s the one who’s on top of the world. LeBron is sort of looking up to him. They’re guys who feel like they can emulate what Curry does.”
Now, in the rest of the statement, Erving says that LeBron tries to emulate Curry. Now, I’m not sure how much sense that makes, but James is on top of the basketball world simply because he can carry a team by himself even with basketball being a team game. We saw that as James helped the Cavs win two games in the NBA Finals with terrible shooting from everyone else and without Kyrie Irving or Kevin Love.
