After losing the first two games of the series, the Cleveland Cavaliers tweaked their offense to perfection by allowing more plays for better off-ball movement. And the result was a blowout Game 3 victory against the Boston Celtics.
As reported by Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, head coach Tyronn Lue admitted that they installed new sets for LeBron James and company.
“We put in a few new sets last night & it gave us more movement. Bron doesn’t want to move too much, so we had to make JR and G Hill do all the moving and Bron just hold the ball.”
The final score was 116-86. James had 27 points, 12 assists, and five rebounds. He only took 12 field goal attempts and made eight. It was pretty apparent that he was waiting for each play to develop for his teammates, rather than power his way to the rim like in the first two games.
Apart from James, five other players scored in double figures, including George Hill who drained three 3-pointers. Kyle Korver greatly benefitted from the more sophisticated offense as he was perfect from beyond the arc, draining four.
After the game, James shared his thoughts on the win, pointing to how the team made the extra pass and remained active. As reported by Brian Windhorst of ESPN:
“We made them make extra passes. We made them make extra dribbles. We were flying around, and I just happened to be one of the guys on the floor that wanted to fly around, as well.”
