Despite reports indicating that he might be able to return to action sometime this week, Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson will be held out of Friday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers.

Thompson, now 26 years of age, has been dealing with a strained left calf muscle for roughly one month. He participated in a four-on-four scrimmage on Wednesday with Isaiah Thomas and several members of Cleveland’s bench unit. However, after Friday’s shootaround in Indianapolis, Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue announced that the former Texas Longhorns stand-out is experiencing a bit of soreness.

“He did (experience soreness) after his four on four the other day, so not sure how long he’s going to be down, so, we’ll see,” coach Lue told Joe Vardon of cleveland.com.

In his eight games played for the Cavs this season, Thompson has turned in averages of 4.4 points on 57.7 percent shooting from the field and 6.4 rebounds.

It is unclear as to whether or not Thompson will be available for Saturday night’s home game against the Philadelphia 76ers. For now, it sounds like he’ll be day-to-day with his injury.

Friday night’s game against the Pacers is scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. EST. Fox Sports Ohio and Fox Sports Indiana will have live broadcast coverage. Let’s see if the Cavs, winners of an NBA-best 13 straight, can keep their momentum rolling.
