Once LeBron James retires there is no question that he will have at least one statue put up his honor, outside of Quicken Loans Arena. According to Craig Webb of the Akron Beacon Journal, there is now a GoFundMe Page set up to try and get another statue put up, in James hometown of Akron.
“A GoFundMe account has been set up with a goal to raise $1 million to put up a life-size statue in Akron of LeBron James,” Craig writes in his recent article.
For LeBron James, he was really appreciative of the gesture and said he would it not only be an honor for him, but for his family.
“First of all, thank you,” James said of Carey’s fundraising effort when asked about it at Cavs shootaround on Monday, hours before facing the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. “It would be cool, not only for myself, but for my family and all the people that had anything to do with this journey thus far. I’m appreciative of even the thought.”
There are some perks for people who donate large amounts to the GoFundMe account. The 15 people to donate $15,000 or more would receive a limited edition miniature replica of the statue in thanks for their donation. Five more replicas would be auctioned off at a later date.
The next big question if enough money is raised is where exactly the statue would be put up. One of the spots that would make the most sense, would be right outside St. Vincent-St. Mary’s, the school where James attended high school.
