Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry have drafted their teams for this year’s NBA All-Star Game, and the results are in. The draft wasn’t televised, but fans got the next best thing: the Cavs’ James and the Warriors’ Curry on air talking about their picks. They did not, however, reveal the order in which they made them.
But James did end up picking both a current and former Cavs teammate in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. On “Inside The NBA,” James spoke about his reasoning.
“I just tried to pick the best available players, and to be able to team back up with Kyrie, it’s always special, along with Kevin Love. For us to have another weekend to bring back some of the memories we had when we were all together. Kyrie was available on the draft board. He’s one of the best point guards that we have in our league, so it was an easy choice for me. It was important to have my teammate (Love) alongside me. It’s a great weekend, we get to share another All-Star moment.”
These are some revealing words from James. He could have been petty and not chosen Irving, something many thought he would do. And because Love is almost always the butt of every joke regarding the Cavaliers, it speaks volumes that James picked him for this team.
What remains unsolved, however, are the circumstances in which James picked those two guys. James mentioned that Irving was still on the draft board. Does that mean all the other available point guards for the starting group were taken? Was Love picked last?
We may never know, and that’s a problem.
