Cleveland Cavaliers forward Larry Nance Jr. is trying to support local businesses amid the coronavirus pandemic. Nance took to Twitter Wednesday to announce a plan for promoting awareness of businesses in the community. The Akron native is encouraging Cavs fans to send apparel to his address, adding he will make a point to wear apparel to each game in effort to galvanize support.
Nance also said he would be selling game-worn jerseys and would match the selling price, with all proceeds going to the business being represented.
It is quite the effort from Nance, and is quite timely in the spirit of giving around the holiday season.
Businesses all around the country face trying times ahead. The pandemic is only growing more dire, with COVID-19 rates spiking in the winter months. Although multiple vaccines have been approved for distribution, it will take months before they become more generally available to the public.
As such, Nance is using his platform to help those in need and try to keep businesses afloat in these coming months.
The NBA also faces uncertainty with respect to the road ahead.
Gone are the days where the league could play in a “bubble.” Although the NBA could be among the first professional sports organizations to oversee widespread distribution of the vaccine, it remains to be seen whether–or if–league officials can implement mandatory vaccination.
In the meantime, Nance is preparing for the season ahead. The 27-year-old is hoping to establish himself as a more regular contributor in the Cavs frontcourt, but Nance is also determined not to lose sight of what really matters.
