Hoops Wire Senior NBA writer Sam Amico wrote about Cleveland Cavaliers guard Caris LeVert’s expectations in free agency in a Wednesday article.
“The Cavs want LeVert to return and LeVert would like to be back in Cleveland,” Amico wrote. “So both sides are off to a good start. Now, as is always the case in these situations, it’s just a matter of the dollars making sense. The Cavs are confident that will happen, sources told Hoops Wire. On top of that, LeVert has said he wants to be here.
“Others are said to be interested, including the Wizards and Grizzlies, per sources. But rival teams will have their own business to handle before worrying about bringing in a player such as LeVert. So the Cavs do expect LeVert to remain part of their team and rotation, continuing to join the likes of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.”
Caris LeVert finished the 2022-23 season with averages of 12.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in 74 games played and 30 starts for the Cavs. He finished the final year of a three-year, $52.5 million contract he signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.
LeVert started in three games of the team’s NBA playoff series against the New York Knicks. The former Indiana Pacers guard ended the team’s five-game series against New York with averages of 15 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists on an average of 33.9 minutes played per game, according to Basketball Reference.
Caris LeVert had expressed interest in returning in April. He cited the Cavs’ culture as a reason why.
“I definitely want to be a part of this culture, be a part of this team,” LeVert said, via ESPN Cavs beat reporter Danny Cunningham. “This group is a super special group and I definitely want to be a part of that.
“But you all know it’s a business, so we’ll see what happens this summer.”
