With the Cleveland Cavaliers’ dominant performance this postseason, LeBron James yet again joins a special group of players with a common rare accomplishment.

James is now one with Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Michael Cooper as the only players in league history to start multiple playoffs with an 8-0 record. The Los Angeles Lakers trio did it in 1982 and 1989 – when the Showtime squad went undefeated in their first 11 playoff games only to be swept in the finals by the Detroit Pistons.

On James’ part, his 2009 and 2016 teams share very interesting parallels. In both years, the Cavs swept the Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks in the first and second round, respectively.
From playing alongside Mo Williams and Zydrunas Ilgauskas in 2009, the latest version of LeBron James’ “Broom Team” has been bolstered significantly by the presence of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

Everyone knows how disappointing the 2009 East Finals turned out to be, but this year, the odds are favoring Cleveland’s chances of steering towards a different ending. It’s a totally different situation this time for the future Hall of Famer as he no longer needs to carry a team on his back.
With a complete and versatile supporting cast in tow, LeBron James has a really good shot at delivering on his promise to “The Land”.
