There is no doubt about it, Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers star point guard, has managed to work his way to the upper echelon of the NBA’s elite ball handlers. With averages of 23.6 points and 5.8 assists per game, Uncle Drew, as he’s affectionately known by his fans, has solidified himself as one of the league’s best guards.

Now, after winning a championship ring and hitting a couple of game-winning shots over the Golden State Warriors, Irving seeks to make his presence felt off the court.

In a recent interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, Irving spoke about his desire to be known as a generational leader, saying:

I am in a place where I’m trying to find the balance of making sure that I stay true to who I am, always living in truth, but also trying to give my influence on the world in the best way I know how.”

I realize that I don’t want to just leave a legacy in basketball. It comes so much deeper than that. I want to be known as a generational leader when I leave this game, and ultimately when I leave this world.”
