Coming into this NBA season, everyone knew that the summer of 2018 would revolve around one thing: where LeBron James would end up in free agency. As the season has gone on though and the disconnect between Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs has grown, it looks like there will be two huge storylines to follow.
There have already been rumors about what teams will be trying to trade for Leonard if he can’t agree on a supermax deal with the Spurs.
On a recent episode of SportsNation, Brian Windhorst of ESPN said that what happens to Kawhi will have a link to what happens to LeBron.
“Where Kawhi ends up this season will have a direct impact on where LeBron ends up even if they don’t play together. They will be linked in where their futures will be.”
He went on to say there are a few teams that could actually swing it that they could get both Kawhi and James this offseason to create a new super team. One of the teams he did mention was the Philadelphia 76ers which if that would happen would make quite a title contender.
Chances are though they won’t end up on the same team, so if one team does end up trading for Leonard, it could put them out of the sweepstakes for James and vice versa.
