Washington Wizards point guard Tomas Satoransky hasn’t played even half a season as a starter, but he is well aware of his competition. With his team mired in sixth place, likely drawing a first-round matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the last pick of the 2012 NBA Draft noted it wouldn’t be in his best interest to face the Cavs in a first-round series.
“For me, still Cleveland it’s not the best option for me. Personally,” said Satoransky, according to Candace Buckner of The Washington Post.
Asked why it wasn’t the best, the 6-foot-7 point man replied with a stat pointing to LeBron James having won 21 straight games in the first round of the playoffs — making it through the first round of the postseason untouched for the last seven years.
“It’s a stat and stats are meant to be broken but I would probably be pleased with a different matchup for us,” added Satoransky.
The Czech guard isn’t wrong — James has been able to bulldoze his way through the early competition and there is no reason to think he would not do it again, playing as well as he has been despite already in his 15th year in the league.
Satoransky is still hopeful that the Wizards could climb as far as fifth place and avoid a matchup with the Cavs, but they’re 3.5 games behind the Indiana Pacers, who despite a tough schedule, have managed to keep winning in the last four games, while the Wizards are merely 1-4 in their last five games.
