While LeBron James and some of the Cleveland Cavaliers players were busy cheering for Ohio State during their football game versus Michigan on Saturday, one of their teammates, was on the other side of the rivalry.
Dwyane Wade made it known that he will be rooting for Michigan ahead of the big game. He also explained his ties to the team, via Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, and his plans for a late Thanksgiving celebration with his family.
“Naw, naw. I understand how big the game is for them tomorrow. I’ll have it on in my house because I didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving yesterday and I’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving with my family and watching the game,” Wade said. “I’ll be rooting for, I like Michigan, I have a little … Tom Crean is married to Joani Crean with Jim Harbaugh and all those guys.”
Wade then said James is aware of who he wants to win, but made it clear that he doesn’t need to explain himself to the Cavs superstar, and that they may have a friendly rivalry going on as well.
“I definitely have some family ties there from that standpoint. But I understand what it means for these guys in the city. It’s going to be a good game.”
“He already knows. It’s not my fight. It’s not my battle.”
Crean was the 12-time All-Star’s coach back in his days with Marquette, which explains why he took Michigan instead of Ohio State. It was indeed a highly-entertaining game, which the Buckeyes ultimately won, 31-20. It will be interesting to find out if Wade was on the receiving end of some trash talking from his best friend, and if they will come up with a wager next time both teams meet.
