Former Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James left Ohio for greener pastures with the Los Angeles Lakers. While the superstar is no longer with the Cavs, he hasn’t spent his final days in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. According to Marisa Guthrie of The Hollywood Reporter, James plans to spend summers in Akron. Guthrie writes:
“Moreover, he’s not leaving Cleveland entirely. He says his charitable foundation will remain in Akron. And he has no plans to unload his Akron estate (there isn’t much of a market for a 30,000-square-foot, $10 million home in northeast Ohio). In fact, he says, he plans to summer there.”
Summers in Akron are probably much nicer than the winters. Give me the winter weather in California over Ohio any day of the week. But the decision to stay in Akron for summers is about much more than the weather. James’ charitable foundation is still in Akron and his brand new I Promise School recently opened in Akron as well.
James’ roots are firmly entrenched in northern Ohio. Although Cavaliers fans were incensed when he made the decision to take his talents to South Beach, he did eventually return home. Not only did he return, but he also brought Cleveland its first championship since 1964.
The prodigal son returned, but he’s off to seek glory elsewhere once again. But there shouldn’t be any hard feelings on the part of Ohioans. He completed the goal of bringing back a championship and he will continue to be a staple in the Akron community.
