After a series of trades that brought in six players in less than a day, Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman was able to heave a sigh of relief and admire the work he has done. These were necessary moves as he observed the team wasn’t going anywhere with the lineup that he had.
In a Twitter post from Fox Sports’ Sam Amico, Altman finally shared what he thought about his team prior to the trades he had made at the trade deadline.
Cavs GM Koby Altman was troubled by team’s culture, was determined to change it. He felt like he has. “We wanted to see it work out. But we were worried about what was going on. We were marching a slow death. We didn’t want to be a part of that.”
Prior to the trade, Cleveland had one of the worst records since Christmas, and there seemed to be no end in sight despite the Cavs’ dramatic 140-138 win versus the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Koby Altman could have stood pat, thinking that the exhilaration of a victory on a LeBron James game-winning shot might reinvigorate the team.
Instead, Altman was having his busiest day yet as the Cavaliers’ general manager, conversing and maneuvering in order to improve the team’s culture, outlook, and their play on the floor.
Changes needed to be made and Altman made sure that everyone knew that he and the front office were aware of the team’s issues on and off the court and that he would take his responsibility seriously.
As a result, the Cavs now have a revamped roster with six new players.
If the Cavs were ‘marching towards slow death’ before the trade, he’s now hoping that the team is headed towards the light.
