It’s the NFL offseason so there is plenty of time for football players to kill. Unlike New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham, though, Pittsburgh Steelers wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster did something wholesome while trying to chill during this NFL action downtime: recruit Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James.
JuJu Smith-Schuster, however, has not been successful in his repeated attempts to pirate James from the world of basketball, and so, he has come to the conclusion that it’s time to bring his wooing of the four-time NBA MVP to a close.
Here’s Smith-Schuster announcing on Twitter that he is backing out of the LeBron James sweepstakes.
The Steelers’ wide receiver has gone to such great lengths in order to persuade James into joining him in Pittsburgh. Smith-Schuster has worn a custom-made James Steelers jersey, went on to FOX Sports, exhausted almost every means on social media, and even ambushed James after a Cavs game in Los Angeles recently, but in the end, all those were an exercise in futility. It’s interesting, however, that Smith-Schuster did not make an effort to put up a billboard in downtown Pittsburgh.
James is from Ohio, so if he’s going to play football, he would probably hook up with a team based on his home state like the Cleveland Browns. Then again, it would be too much to think that James could play the messiah for two franchises, as he has already ended the title drought for the Cavs in 2016.
As for Smith-Schuster, the 21-year-old receiver will just focus on getting better following his fantastic rookie campaign with the Steelers in which he had 917 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
