It seems that disgruntled Cleveland Cavaliers guard Derrick Rose is leaning towards returning to the team, but when exactly will he show up in Cleveland’s facility remains a mystery. This is according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, who had a source telling him that the one-time league MVP is showing interest in coming back.
A league source told cleveland.com that the timing of Rose’s formal return to Cleveland Clinic Courts — the Cavs’ headquarters — was still being determined.
Rose has not played a game since a Nov. 7 matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks because of issues with his left ankle. He then stepped away from the team to assess his plans for his basketball career, as he’s clearly grown tired of having to frequently deal with numerous injuries time and again.
Derrick Rose, however, could lose a reported $80 million from Adidas if he decided to prematurely hang up his sneakers for good. Rose signed a one-year deal with the Cavs back in the summer that’s worth just $2.1 million, and it’s unlikely he’ll get a contract worth anywhere near of what he used to make after this season. That’s even if he deferred his rumored retirement plans, as teams won’t find it compelling to invest in an aging star, who also comes with perennial health issues.
While Rose is away, Jose Calderon is the primary aid for LeBron James in terms of playing the point guard position for the Cavs.
This season, Rose is averaging 14.3 points and 1.7 assists per game.
