The Cleveland Cavaliers and David Griffin decided to “mutually part ways” earlier this summer, as most hoops fans know. Today, the former Cavs executive spent some time on The Jump, ESPN’s popular sports talk show. Right out of the gate, “Griff,” as he came to be known in Cleveland, was asked about Kyrie Irving’s recent request for a trade.
Amid his wide-ranging interview, Griffin tried his best to explain what Irving might be feeling. Somewhat surprisingly, Griff mentioned the Boston Celtics twice as one of Irving’s favored landing spots. By now, NBA fans know about Irving’s five-team list, but the C’s weren’t on it. Does Griff know something we don’t? A bit of inside knowledge, perhaps?

Whether or not Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and newly appointed GM Koby Altman will acquiesce to Irving’s plea for a trade can only be speculated on at this point. However, if the Celtics, who recently acquired sharpshooter Gordon Hayward from the Utah Jazz, were to add Irving as well, the road to the Eastern Conference Finals could be a bit bumpy for the Cavs.
