On Thursday afternoon, newly-appointed Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman and head coach Tyronn Lue held an introductory press conference from the team’s practice court, Cleveland Clinic Courts, to welcome the players who were acquired in last month’s trade with the Boston Celtics.
During the wide-ranging interview, Isaiah Thomas mentioned his excitement to play alongside “the greatest player in the world.” Most people knew exactly who the crafty ball-handler was referring to. However, Channing Frye, a member of the Cavs who is known for his hilarious antics, decided to have a little fun with Thomas’ comment about LeBron James.
SportsCenter’s Instagram page posted a photo with Thomas’ quote shortly after the press conference ended. Frye, no doubt feeling a bit cheeky, saw the post and left a witty comment.
“@IsaiahThomas, I’m excited to play with you too, fam!”
Hey, Thomas didn’t mention any names in particular in his statement. Is there any reason why Frye shouldn’t assume his new teammate was referring to him?
Alright, so maybe Frye isn’t the greatest player in the world, but he is extremely funny. Having a guy like him on the team is important, believe it or not — and not just for his deadly three-point shooting. Had a bad day? Go “holla’ at ya’ boy,” as Channing would say, for five minutes. There is a good chance you’ll walk away smiling.
