Cavs news: Cavs and Celtics complete Kyrie Irving-Isaiah Thomas trade

Kyrie Irving Isaiah Thomas

Less than 12 hours before the deadline to complete the trade, the Cavs and Celtics have agreed to terms and completed the trade that would send Kyrie Irving to Boston and Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, the 2018 unprotected first-round Nets pick, as well as a 2020 second-round pick to Cleveland.

The 2020 second round pick will come from the Miami Heat in a deal they made with the Celtics back in 2015, per Woj.

The deal was originally announced last Tuesday, August 22nd, but the Cavs conducted Isaiah Thomas’ physical on Saturday and the results brought them back to the negotiating table. After attempting to pry another high pick and, at one point, even Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown, Cleveland and Boston agreed on a second round pick to complete the deal swapping All-Star guards.

Earlier this week, Thomas spoke for the first time since the trade was announced with Adrian Wojnarowski, where he promised to return just as good as before.

“I am not damaged,” Thomas said. “I’ll be back, and I’ll be the same player. At the moment, yes, I am injured, but I have made progress from May.”

Thomas is not expected to be ready to start the season, but he’s confident he’ll make his way back to help the championship-seeking Cavs.
