Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson announce end of ‘Road Trippin’ podcast

Earlier this month, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded veteran small forward Richard Jefferson, as well as point guard Kay Felder, to the Atlanta Hawks in an effort to create roster space and luxury-tax relief. Jefferson, now 37 years of age, then signed a deal with the Denver Nuggets to provide a voice of leadership to the team.

As most hoops fans know, Jefferson and his former Cavaliers teammate, Channing Frye, starred in a popular podcast known as Road Trippin’. Now, after 53 episodes and countless laughs, it sounds like the show is ending.

On Friday, Fox Sports Ohio’s Allie Clifton, who served as a moderator of sorts for the podcast, took a look back at some of the more memorable highlights from the show’s successful run.

Over the course of the show 53-episode stretch, the trio of hosts, along with Rafael “El Alcalde” Hernandez-Brito, welcomed several famous athletes to the set — both past and present. Among all of the interesting stories that were told on the Road Trippin’ podcast, none took off like Kyrie Irving’s flat Earth.

“What you allowed us to do was live out our motto to the fullest, with no regret, unfiltered, raw and real,” Clifton said in wrapping up Episode 53. “Always remember that what you heard from us was none other than of course us simply telling our stories that no one else could.”

Jefferson played a key role for the Cavs over the course of his two seasons with the team. The former Arizona Wildcat standout contributed to the team’s back-to-back Finals runs, appearing in 35 postseason games. Without a doubt, “RJ,” as he is known, will be missed in Cleveland.

“As they always say, good things must come to an end,” Jefferson said at the beginning of episode 53. “And what a ride it has been for the Road Trippin’ crew. As we say our final goodbyes — as the originals — we thought it would only be appropriate to have one last listen back to how much fun we had.”
