The Cleveland Cavaliers were energized on Tuesday night, destroying the Detroit Pistons 128-96, on the back of a 44-point first quarter.
With the exciting debut of Larry Sanders, the Cavaliers also had Kevin Love in the building, who is rumored to travel with the team and finally return from injury in the upcoming road trip, starting on Saturday.
Love took part in 3-on-3 workouts prior to the game and excited eager fans with an Instagram post that led some to believe he may be in uniform aginst the Pistons.
Those rumors were shut down fast, but general manager David Griffin had this to say during the Cavaliers broadcast:
“Every next step you take in a rehab situation when you come back from surgery allows for the possibility of swelling and setback, it’s just how it goes,” Griffin said. “If he gets through it, he has no soreness, we’ll let him keep taking the next step all the way through and we’ll see what that means. I would anticipate that he’ll play sometime on the road trip.”
The Cavs have been dealing with injuries for months, seeing J.R. Smith riding the bench with a thumb injury for months, and now Kyle Korver finds himself on the sidelines with a sore left foot.
The return of Kevin Love will mean so much to this Cleveland squad. Love will still have a few weeks of regular season games to get back into game shape and familiarize himself with the tempo and systems the Cavaliers employ.
Even after losing six of their past nine games, Cleveland still finds themselves with a two-game gap atop the Eastern Conference. The return of the All-Star forward only spells bad news for the rest of the Eastern Conference.
