Back and forth we go between Tristan Thompson and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thompson wants the 5-year, $94 million max contract. Cleveland, on the other hand, feels the 5-year, $80 million they offered is more than enough. After all, Thompson is just a bench player and rebounder, and no matter how spectacular he was in the playoffs, his numbers were increased due to the overwhelming injuries the Cavs had to endure.

Thompson’s agent, Rich Paul, has publicly come out and said that Thompson will leave Cleveland if he is forced to sign a qualifying offer that would pay him a little over $6 in 2015-16 and make him an unrestricted free agent. Multiple sources have linked Thompson to his hometown Toronto Raptors, but Sheridan Hoops and Associated Press writer Mike Scotto reported that the Raptors aren’t the only teams with max contract offers.

This could spell some trouble for the Cavs, and it might be time the two sides come to an agreement on a deal. Because the Cavs can’t trade Thompson due to rules of a qualifying offer, Cleveland will essentially be losing Thompson for nothing next summer. At this point, it seems like Thompson is likely going to get the contract he’s been demanding or sign a qualifying offer, which means 2015-16 will be his final year in Cleveland.
