Kyrie Irving is close to a return to the court after months of recovering from surgery for the fractured kneecap he suffered in the 2015 NBA Finals. Head coach David Blatt said that Iman Shumpert and Irving could both make their season debuts on this mini, two-game road trip in the middle of last week. Shumpert made his debut in Orlando against the Magic, and Irving has reportedly been urging the Cavs to let him play as well.

Unfortunately, Irving’s debut will not come on Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics, David Blatt announced, and Irving will have to wait at least one more game to make his debut.

Many fans have been waiting anxiously to see Irving’s return, but Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reported on Blatt’s reasoning to keep Irving out.
“We’ve still got some things that we want to go through with him before we let him get back out there,” Blatt said, “but he is looking good and feeling good.”
“He still has some testing to do and we’d like him to work a few more days in practice,” Blatt said.
Haynes also did report that regardless of whether he plays this week, he will surely be ready for the Christmas Day matchup against the Golden State Warriors.
