The NBA’s trade deadline is today at 3 PM EST, and many teams have yet to make any significant moves as they were expected to. Superstars like Dwight Howard, Kevin Love, Al Horford, and Hassan Whiteside have all been rumored to be traded, but their teams have not found solid trade partners.
Some of the names of players the Cavs were reported to be pursuing included the Pelicans’ Ryan Anderson, the Kings’ Ben McLemore, and the Hawks’ Kyle Korver.
Over the past couple of days, it was rumored that Love, Iman Shumpert, and Anderson Varejao we’re on the block for the Cavs as they pursued a smaller lineup that could defend and spread the floor. However, Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal reports that he expects all three players to remain with the Cavs past Thursday as the team pursues The city’s first championship in over a half-century.
Anything can change in the final hours, but the most realistic option facing the Cavs by late Wednesday night was a minor move to improve the bottom end of their rotation.
Kevin Love and Iman Shumpert are expected to be in Cleveland after the deadline, according to one source with knowledge of the team’s thinking, as is Anderson Varejao. All sources were granted anonymity given the sensitive nature of trade talks.
Up until yesterday, Wednesday evening, reports claimed that the Cavs had offered Varejao to Orlando for Channing Frye. According to Lloyd, general manager David Griffin has like fry since he worked with the Suns organization a few years back.
