Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the Eastern Conference champs, Now, roughly two weeks after their now-infamous meeting with the crafty ball-handler, team owner Dan Gilbert and newly-appointed general manager Koby Altman are still exploring their options with regards to the situation. As ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports in his recent article, the Cavs have three choices.
“Reject Irving’s plea and not trade him, as he has two years (plus an option year) left on his contract; find a package of young players and draft picks in exchange for him; or find a deal for veteran players as they deal with the reality that James can be a free agent after the 2017-18 season.”
There will be several teams interested in acquiring Irving. However, as of now, he remains on the Cavaliers’ roster. Romeo Travis, a former teammate and close friend of LeBron James since their days at Akron’s St. Vincent – St. Mary High School, offered his opinion of what the Cavs should do about Irving’s trade request.
It seems everyone has their own opinion on this topic. We’ll just have to wait and see if Gilbert, Altman, and the Cavs acquiesce to Irving’s wishes.
