For the second time this season and 34th time in his illustrious 14-year NBA career (most in league history), Cleveland Cavaliers superstar small forward LeBron James has won Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors.
For the month of February, James averaged 25.6 points, 10.6 assists, 7.2 rebounds, and led the Cavaliers to an NBA-best 9-and-2 record. James appeared in 10 games through the month, recording seven double-doubles and one triple-double.
“The King,” as James is justly known, made 64% (100-157) of his shots from the field and shot 57% (21-37) from beyond the three-point line. Furthermore, James’ 10.6 assists per game average was the highest of any single month in his NBA career.
Recently, James has been piling up the milestones. February had James becoming the eighth (and youngest) player in NBA history to score 28,000 points. On February 6th, James climbed to 13th on the NBA’s all-time leading assist ladder, passing legendary former Cavaliers player and coach, Lenny Wilkens (7,211). In that same game, James passed Magic Johnson (1,724) for the 20th position on the all-time leading steals list.
On February 8th, in a 132-117 road win over the Indiana Pacers, James recorded his 800th career blocked shot. Later in the month, James passed Brad Daugherty (5,227) for second place amongst the Cavaliers’ all-time leading rebounders.
James is currently averaging 25.7 points (ninth in the NBA) on 54% shooting from the field (11th in the NBA), 7.9 rebounds, a career-high 8.9 assists (fourth in the NBA) and 1.4 steals in 37.6 minutes per game (55 games). If those statitistics aren’t impressive enough, James has recorded 29 double-doubles (13th in the NBA) and seven triple-doubles (third in the NBA) so far this season.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard, Russell Westbrook, won Western Conference Player of the Month honors. Join us in congratulating the two deserving recipients!
