During the Golden State Warriors‘ championship parade on Thursday afternoon, Draymond Green made headlines for his attire as he donned a t-shirt that made reference to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The t-shirt depicted a large Q that helped spell out the word “Quickie” along with the Larry O’Brien trophy in the background. Green revealed in an interview that it indeed stood for the Quicken Loans arena where the Cavaliers play and the word “Quickie” was in regards to how fast they took care of Cleveland in just five games in the series.
It didn’t take long for this to get back around to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who has an active presence on Twitter, as he fired away his own response.
LeBron James also issued a response to Green it by giving his own witty comeback to the T-shirt. However, this strikes a much deeper chord with Gilbert, a notable Michigan State alumni, given that his alma mater’s head coach Tom Izzo had urged him to take Green in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft.
The Cavaliers at the time possessed the 33rd and 34th overall picks, but instead of listening to Izzo’s advice Gilbert decided to trade the selections to the Dallas Mavericks and Green was selected by the Warriors with the 35th overall pick.
All of this makes for a more personal connection from that vantage point between Gilbert and the two-time All-Star forward. However, if the Cavaliers are able to top the Warriors next year in the NBA Finals don’t expect Gilbert and the team to hold back from firing away their own subtle shots toward Green.
