A few minutes after the Boston Celtics defeated the Atlanta Hawks, LeBron James sent out a subtle message through an Instagram post of the infamous carton Arthur’s fist meme to vent out some frustration.
With that in mind, when this was brought up to his teammate J.R. Smith on Tuesday morning the entire meaning of the post just flew over the 32-year-old’s head.
Smith had no inclination as to what the meme was in reference to or what the perceived emotion that it is supposed to invoke. That said, there is an understanding that the relationship between James and Kyrie Irving has been strained over the last few months since the trade.
This also falls in line with the type of subtle messages that James has put up over the last few years. The fact that Smith didn’t fully understand the situation shouldn’t be surprising given that he was unaware of it entirely happening on Monday night.
However, this isn’t the first time that James has sent an indirect message directed toward Irving via social media over the last few months with the latter responding in similar fashion. There could certainly be much more to come over the course of this season.
