Earlier this week, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that Kevin Love had agreed to the terms of a four-year, $120 million contract extension. Cavs general manager Koby Altman and his staff decided to reveal this news in a thoughtful way — with several crew members of The Q Transformation Project on-hand. Now, just a few days later, it sounds like the Cavs are focusing on an extension for Larry Nance Jr.
Nance Jr. came to the Cavs as part of a trade deadline deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, the Akron, Ohio native has endeared himself as a fan favorite. He plays hard, especially on the defensive end of the floor, but he also has a strong dunk hand. And let’s not forget that he’s wearing his dad’s jersey number.
According to a report from Joe Vardon of cleveland.com, the Cavs are working hard towards an extension for Nance Jr.
“Nance is a free agent in the summer of 2019,” Vardon writes in his recent article. “I’m told the Cavs will work hard to sign him to a contract extension long before that. They love the Revere High product.”
Nance Jr, now 25 years of age, made 24 appearances with the Cavs during their 2017-18 regular season campaign (10 starts), averaging 8.9 points on 55.0 percent shooting from the field, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.2 steals, and just under one block (0.8) in 20.8 minutes per outing.
Exactly how much the Cavs will offer Nance remains to be seen, but it sounds like both sides are interested. Be sure to keep your browsers locked on CavsNation for more updates on this topic as they become available.
