Shortly after Dwyane Wade received a buyout from the Chicago Bulls earlier this week, the Cleveland Cavaliers decided to sign the three-time champion to a veteran’s minimum deal. Since then, all forms of media have been raving about the team’s acquisition — and rightfully so.
Like all other members of the Cavaliers organization, head coach Tyronn Lue is happy about Wade’s arrival in Northeast Ohio. In an interview with Fox Sports Ohio’s Fred McLeod after today’s practice session, coach Lue expressed his excitement.
“I’m excited to have him,” Lue said with a smile. “We have a plan in place on how to use him. He’s another dynamic player, a future hall of famer.”
Coach Lue also noted that Wade, now 35 years of age, ran some minutes at point guard during the Cavs’ Wednesday night practice.
“Last night, (Wade) played some point guard minutes and was fantastic,” Lue said.
Another member of the team who is thrilled to have Wade aboard is LeBron James, his long-time friend and former teammate with the Miami Heat. In fact, James recently likened Wade’s arrival to seeing a familiar face in class on the first day of school.
Wade will be a great addition to what was already an impressive Cavaliers’ front-court rotation. In his 60 games played for the Bulls last season, the 12-time NBA All Star averaged 18.3 points on 43 percent shooting from the field, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals in 29.9 minutes per contest.
It won’t be long now, Cavs fans. The start of the NBA season is less than one month away. Before you know it, Wade and James will be lobbing alley-oops to one another — just as they did in the past. Until then, be sure to keep your browsers locked on Cavs Nation.
