After Monday morning’s shootaround inside Madison Square Garden, several members of the Cavs decided to take the subway back to the team’s hotel. One unsuspecting passenger, comedian and real estate agent James Michael Angelo, had no idea that he would be meeting LeBron James on the commute.
James, one of the more recognizable faces in all of sports, decided to film a portion of the train ride. As his camera rolled, he caught Angelo, halfway through his morning latte, in the frame.
Basically, Angelo wanted no part of being filmed, and he actually asked James to stop.
Via Charles Curtis of For the Win:
“Can you not?” Angelo said as James filmed his next-seat neighbor.
Angelo tells For the Win that he had no idea it was LeBron James filming.
“I noticed a bunch of tall guys getting in the train, but I was listening to U2 and I didn’t want to be filmed.”
As James was recording, he nearly elbowed Angelo. It was inadvertent, of course, but Angelo asked the King to “watch where his elbows are going.”
“To be honest with you, they got on and they completely squished me and he was really unaware of his space,” Angelo said.
“It was first thing in the morning,” he said. “I hadn’t finished my latte and I didn’t feel like being filmed. Plus, it’s not good lighting in the subway.”
Angelo, who initially thought the group was a college basketball team, later learned that he had just snubbed the greatest basketball player in today’s game. He tells For the Win that he might use the incident, which has now gone viral, in part of an upcoming appearance.
