Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Rodney Hood has been dealing with a lower back strain. According to a report from Joe Vardon of cleveland.com, the former No. 23 overall pick in the 2014 Draft will go through shootaround before the team officially decides on his status for Tuesday night’s road game against the Pheonix Suns.
“Do you have an update on Rodney for tonight?” Vardon asked Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue.
“He’ll go through shootaround, but he’s questionable for tonight,” Lue replied.
“If he’s available, would you start him?” Vardon asked.
“We’ll see,” Lue replied.
Hood’s injury came in the first quarter of Friday night’s 116-102 loss to the L.A. Clippers. The crafty marksman played just seven minutes.
Hood started in the two games prior to his injury, scoring a combined 29 points in wins over the Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons. However, the former Duke Blue Devil was held out of Sunday’s 127-113 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, which led to Coach Lue giving Jeff Green a starting nod.
In his 25 games played for the Cavs this season (four starts), Hood has racked up averages of 10.2 points on 41.1 percent shooting from the field (32.5 percent from beyond the arc), 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
As most hoops fans know, the Cavs (38-28, 4th in Eastern Conference) are currently dealing with several injuries. Cedi Osman is expected to miss roughly two weeks with a left hip flexor strain, Kevin Love is out for a bit longer with a hand injury, and Tristan Thompson has a sprained ankle.
Tuesday night’s game between the Cavs and Suns is set to tip inside Talking Stick Resorts Arena at 10:00 p.m. EST with FOX Sports Ohio having live broadcast coverage.
