Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Isaiah Thomas may still be recovering from a hip injury, but that isn’t stopping LeBron James from visualizing what it will be like playing with the crafty ball-handler on NBA 2K.
“I play a lot of 2K,” James said after Wednesday morning’s practice at Cleveland Clinic Courts. “Seriously, I’ve said this before. I play a lot of NBA 2K. It’s the most realistic basketball game that you could ever play. I mix and match a lot of lineup changes and things of that nature to see how we can be really good.”
James, now in his 15th season of NBA service, was then asked about his own character in the popular video game. “The King,” as he’s known, said 2K has done a “great job” of rendering his style of play.
As most hoops fans know, Thomas suffered his injury in last season’s Eastern Conference playoffs. Though he hasn’t taken the floor with his new teammates in an actual game setting, the two-time All-Star was seen running four-on-four drills with several members of Cleveland’s bench and coaching staff on Wednesday morning. Initial reports pointed to a January return for Thomas. Now, however, there are signs indicating that his rehabilitation could be slightly ahead of schedule.
James and the Cavs will look to extend their NBA-best 12-game winning streak on Wednesday night when they welcome the Sacramento Kings to Quicken Loans Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Fox Sports Ohio having live broadcast coverage.
