Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has racked up loads (and loads) of achievements over the course of his illustrious 15-year career in the NBA, and he’s on pace to attain yet another. If the King can manage at least 10 points in Wednesday night’s road game against the Charlotte Hornets, he’ll tie Michael Jordan (866) for the longest double-figure scoring streak.
To quote his own words, James is “aging like a fine wine.” In fact, the Akron Hammer is currently playing some of the best basketball of his career. He recently became the oldest player in NBA history to produce at least 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists in a single season.
James, now 33 years of age, has played in all 74 of Cleveland’s games this season, averaging 27.4 points on 54.8 percent shooting from the field (36.2 percent from beyond the arc), 9.1 assists (career-high), 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and just under one block (0.9).
Via Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com:
“James is the first player since Kobe Bryant to score at least 2,000 points in his 15th season or later. He also moved over the 44,000-minute mark for his career (regular season) on Tuesday, and has logged 53,142 minutes if you count the playoffs.”
James and the Cavs — now the No 3 seed in the Eastern Conference standings with a 44-30 overall record — will close out a three-game road trip with Wednesday night’s matchup against the Hornets, who are still vying for a spot in this season’s Playoffs. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. inside the Spectrum Center with FOX Sports Ohio, FOX Sports Southeast and NBA TV having live broadcast coverage.
