Cleveland Cavaliers teammates LeBron James (St. Vincent – St. Mary’s) and Larry Nance Jr. (Revere) have made a bet on which of their respective high school alma maters will come out on top in Thursday’s Ohio Div. II regional semifinal at Canton Memorial Civic Center, according to a report from Joe Vardon of cleveland.com.
“We already got a bet,” James told Vardon Tuesday. “Obviously he’s riding with his school and his little brother and you already know who I’m going with. We raise banners where I’m from so we’re not worried about Revere at all.”
Vardon notes that James did not go into the finer details of the bet.
Nance Jr’s brother, Pete, is a standout senior for the Revere Minutemen. James’ Fighting Irish are the defending state champs.
“We’re more mad that we can’t be there on Thursday,” James said. “I’d love to be there, obviously we got work to do.”
James and the Cavs — now the 4th-ranked team in the Eastern Conference standings with a 38-28 overall record — are currently on the back end of six-game road trip, with games against the Phoenix Suns (Tuesday), Portland Trail Blazers (Thursday), and Chicago Bulls (Saturday) ahead of them.
James, now 33 years of age and in his 15th season of NBA service, is showing now signs of regression. In fact, it’s just the opposite. The Kid from Akron has played in every game this season (66 thus far), averaging 26.9 points on 54.3 percent shooting from the field (37.1 percent from beyond the arc), 9.0 assists and 8.4 rebounds.
