The situation surrounding Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers took an interesting turn on at late Wednesday night as it was revealed that he had reportedly met with LeBron James in Miami over the weekend.
In light of that Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN touched upon the topic in an interview on Thursday morning by stating that even if the two Cavaliers stars did, in fact, meet up it would not have changed much concerning Irving’s recent trade request (h/t Jason McIntyre of The Big Lead).
There’s always a lot of stuff that floats around on the internet … I don’t know of any meeting. I know they both spent time in Miami. I know Kyrie has been at the University of Miami working out over the last weeks … and LeBron spends some time there in the offseason too … it’s not inconceivable that they could cross paths somewhere.
But even if they did, it’s not going to change anything. To me, it doesn’t mean anything. I’m not sure there’s anything for them to talk out. Kyrie’s made his trade request, and it’s for reasons bigger than LeBron, and he’s not going to rescind that.
There had been reports of a meeting between both these All-Stars, which ESPN’s Steven A. Smith has already refuted ever happened in the first place. Regardless of this did or did not take place, there is still remains much uncertainty around the franchise.
All of this was only furthered with the rumors that James has already zeroed in this 2017-18 season as being his last in Cleveland due to his unstable standing with owner Dan Gilbert. It is just becoming a more complicated situation that has many different parts to it.
That said, there are still about two months to the season, and things could be drastically different by the time training camp rolls around in mid-September.
