The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the midst of a horrendous tailspin in the middle of the 2017-18 NBA season when contenders are expected to find their groove. The Cavs’ slide has LeBron James facing an atrocious seven-game streak that he hasn’t had since he was a rookie.
After the loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, ESPN Stats & Info says that:
LeBron James finished with a negative plus-minus for a 7th straight game last night, tied for the longest streak of his career.
Only other 7-game streak came during his rookie season November/December, 2003.
James was celebrated by fans, opponents, media and people all over the world after he scored the 30,000th point of his career in the game against the Spurs. But that was all that the Cavaliers superstar could celebrate as his team lost for the sixth time in seven games.
Their only win during that stretch was a narrow escape after the Cavs blew a 23-point lead at home versus the Orlando Magic, hanging on to win a ball game they didn’t deserve to win.
Even with a win in that game versus the Magic, James recorded a -4 in plus-minus rating.
Cleveland has to get its act together with only 36 games remaining in their regular season schedule. Though that’s still more than enough time to turn their season around, the mounting losses will continue to lower the team’s morale further. It could also almost guarantee that they don’t get homecourt advantage as they go deeper in the playoffs.
The Cavaliers will face the Indiana Pacers next on Friday, January 26.
