As most hoops fans know, Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has been dealing with a nagging ankle injury since the beginning of training camp. The injury, which caused the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 Draft to miss four of his team’s preseason games, will not keep him out of tonight’s preseason opener against Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics.
According a report from Fox Sports Ohio’s Allie Clifton, James will indeed suit up for tonight’s highly-anticipated matchup inside Quicken Loans Arena.
James’ upgraded status, which was unknown until now, is certainly great news for the Cavs. He went through team practice this morning, but declined to comment on his availability for tonight’s game.
Without question, “the King,” as he is justly known, has played an important role in his team’s recent success. In his 74 games played for the Cavs last season, the former St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School standout posted some of the best statistical numbers of his career, averaging 26.4 points on 55 percent shooting from the field, 8.7 assists (career-high), 8.6 rebounds (career-high), and 1.2 steals in 37.8 minutes per contest.
Tuesday’s bout against the Celtics marks the first meeting between James and his former teammate, Kyrie Irving, who was traded to Beantown during the offseason.
Tonight’s game between the Cavs and Celtics is slated to tip at 8 p.m. EST, with TNT having live broadcast coverage. Let’s see who takes round one of their three scheduled meetings this season.
