The Cleveland Cavaliers are having one of their best seasons as a franchise in a while, and the goal is to win a championship at the end of the year. The last time the Cavs won a championship was in 2016, led by the greatness of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love.

The role players were also key in helping them win that year, and one of those players was Matthew Dellavedova. Fast forward to the current time, and Dellavedova is playing overseas and was just awarded the NBL Finals MVP for his play, even though they lost the series.

Dellavedova showed off how much class he has, and ended up giving the trophy to Will Hickey, who was on the opposing team.

“This really belongs to you, you had a hell of a series,” Dellavedova said.

Love caught wind of what Dellavedova did, and shared a nice message for him on Instagram, saying “Matthew Dellavedova is the f—— best.”

Love probably knows the type of person Dellavedova is, and he isn’t surprised by the gesture. While they were on the Cavs together, he played a big role as the backup point guard, coming in and bringing strong defense and also being a knockdown 3-point shooter.

Current Cavs looking to capture success similar to 2016

There is one player on the current Cavs team that was on the 2016 championship team, and it’s Tristian Thompson, who was the starting center at that time. Thompson is now a veteran for this current team and is helping them navigate the season and teaching them the ins and outs of getting to the NBA Finals.

This Cavs team has a good chance of making it to the Finals this season, and they’ve shown that they have everything they need to compete at the highest level. Donovan Mitchell is at the top of his game, and Darius Garland has stepped up as a solid backcourt mate alongside him.

Evan Mobley is in conversations for Defensive Player of the Year, but he’s also been making a difference on offense. The bench added pieces around the trade deadline such as De’Andre Hunter and Javonte Green who will be big for their wing depth in the postseason.

The Cavs will have a tough task ahead of them trying to reach the Finals, as the Boston Celtics will be looking to get back after winning last season. If those two meet in the Conference Finals, it will be exciting to see how they match up with each other.
