The Cleveland Cavaliers have a lot to chew on following their quick exit from the 2026 NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

There is surely regret on the side of the Cavs, who could only wish they had done better in the Knicks series to at least avoid an embarrassing sweep. Following Cleveland’s 130-93 loss at home in Game 4 of the conference finals, Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson shared a reason behind his team’s lackluster showing in the Knicks series.

Atkinson believed that the fatigue from playing back-to-back series that reached Game 7s in the playoffs played a factor in Cleveland’s ultimate downfall in the East finals.

“We win those Game 6s [against the Toronto Raptors and the Detroit Pistons), we beat the Knicks – I’m not saying that, but I think it gives us a better chance. But the density of the frequency of the games played a part in it,” Atkinson told reporters in the postgame press conference, via SNY Knicks.

It can be recalled that the Cavs had a chance to finish off Toronto in Game 6 in the first round but blew that opportunity before beating the Raptors in Game 7 at home. In the second round, Cleveland battled back from a 2-0 series deficit, winning the next three games before falling prey to Detroit in Game 6. They still got the job done in Game 7 on the road.

This time around, the Knicks gave Cleveland barely a chance to breathe. But one can only wonder what the series could have been of the Cavaliers did not have that painful Game 1 collapse  that set the tone of the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals.
