As the Cleveland Cavaliers continue to lose games at a very uncharacteristic pace, a lot of questions have been raised on what the real reason is and who is to blame for it. Many have pinned the blame on Tyronn Lue, but J.R. Smith doesn’t think Lue deserves the backlash.
The veteran shooting guard then said, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN, that their failure to execute the sets and plays designed by the coaching staff could be the main cause for losing nine of their last 13 games.
“I mean, they can’t go out there and play for us,” Smith said. “If they come up with the schemes and we execute those schemes to a T and we’re still losing at a certain point and time, they can make their adjustments. But we’re just not executing offensively or defensively.”
There have been rumors swirling that Lue could be on his way out as head coach of the Cavs especially as the team appears to be needing to make some moves before the trade deadline. While replacing him could do wonders for the Cavs, it could also be another challenge for the players as they need to adjust to a new system and be forced to learn it quickly now that the season is more than halfway through.
The head coaching situation of the Wine and Gold is definitely something worth keeping an eye on and it can be expected that if Lue is replaced, it will draw a lot of reactions from the public. For now, though, he is still in charge of calling the plays from the sidelines but could indeed be in the hot seat if they won’t be able to return to their winning ways soon.
