As most fans hoops fans know, the Cleveland Cavaliers recently acquired three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade. It was a blockbuster move, and most outlets of the media are still talking about it.
Adding Wade to the Cavs rotation is indeed big news, but it also meant that J.R. Smith would have to give up his starting position at shooting guard. Despite that fact, it seems as though “Swish,” as he is known, is still committed to the team’s common goal: the Larry O’Brien trophy.
After today’s practice session at Cleveland Clinic Courts, Smith, a guy who is never afraid to say what’s on his mind, told reporters that he loves the Cavs’ addition of Wade, contrary to what some people might be thinking.
“I love it,” Smith told Fox Sports Ohio’s Fred McLeod. “It gives us more depth.”
Smith does make a valid point. Wade, now 35 years of age, will be a solid addition to the Cavs’ rotation — however the team elects to utilize him. In his 60 games played for his native Chicago Bulls last season, Wade averaged 18.3 points on 43 percent shooting from the field, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals in 29.9 minutes per game.
Smith has been nothing short of an excellent teammate since he arrived in Cleveland. He is loved in the locker room and beyond. Furthermore, his three-point shooting has played a crucial role in the Cavs’ recent success. If you’re a fan of his like we are — don’t worry. There is no doubt that Swish will still be making it rain from deep.
