Kevin Love just turned 34 this summer. At this point in his career, there’s no denying that he’s the elder statesman in an otherwise youthful Cleveland Cavaliers side. Cavs big man Jarrett Allen just had to make sure to point this fact out.
Allen went full savage on Love as he described the vet’s current stature with the team. When asked what the main difference is between playing alongside Love and Cavs incoming second-year stud Evan Mobley in the front court, Allen could not help but throw shade at his older teammate (via Camryn Justice of News 5 Cleveland):
“Obviously on the defensive end, Kevin’s 52-years-old, definitely not as athletic or anything,” Allen said.
That’s pure savagery at its finest. For the record, Kevin is not 52. That’s obviously a gross exaggeration from Jarrett Allen — which is what makes the jab so hilarious.
Say what you want about Kevin Love, but there’s still no denying that he’s going to be integral for the Cavs this coming season. He’s going to be a valuable part of the rotation coming off the bench, as he looks to provide quality minutes for the second unit. Last season, the five-time All-Star posted averages of 13.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 22.5 minutes off the bench. Love also connected on 39.2 percent of his 6.4 attempts from deep last term.
Perhaps even more important is the role Love is going to play as the veteran voice in the Cavs locker room. This is a young and hungry group, and they will need all of Love’s championship-level experience, especially come playoff time.
