LeBron James golfed with Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green. During Fanatics Fest on Thursday, he used the phrase “trust the process,” the former mantra of the Philadelphia 76ers. The all-time great forward has been in contact (via agent Rich Paul) with Miami Heat president Pat Riley, a man he deeply respects. Fans can find breadcrumbs sprinkled throughout these three squads, but they do not need any hints to know how James feels about the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The four-time NBA Finals MVP and four-time regular season MVP spent the first seven seasons of his career in his home state and later returned to Forest City after a four-year stint with Miami, leading the franchise to its first and presently only championship in 2016. Following consecutive Finals losses to the Warriors, James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. Eight years later, he is looking for a new team, or perhaps an old one.
Cavs star guard and fellow future Hall of Famer James Harden is excited about the possibility of sharing a locker room with the ageless wonder. The Beard does not think a recruiting pitch is going to sway James, but he reiterated what others have emphasized as a selling point.
“I hope he comes to Cleveland,” Harden said, per ESPN Cleveland. “It’s a perfect storybook finish, he’s at home for his last year… I don’t think anybody’s pitch is gonna move him. Wherever he decides, obviously the team’s gonna be a lot better.”

LeBron James understands the magnitude of reuniting with the Cavaliers for one final run in the NBA. Although he will not publicly tout legacy as an influencing factor in his free agency decision, he surely recognizes the narrative significance of winning another title in Cleveland, especially after a lengthy layoff.
There is a case to be made that the Cavs can offer James a better path to a fifth ring than any other squad. They have continuity, star power, experience and youthful promise. They also reside in the ostensibly more navigable Eastern Conference. He cannot ignore the many pros to this reunion scenario.
But could James fit with Harden? Both players are fantastic playmakers who command the ball, so it could take some time for the team to build chemistry. There is reason to believe Cleveland can accommodate the icon, however.
The Cavs players want what James has already attained: championship immortality. They will absorb whatever knowledge he can give them, and the 41-year-old should be able to lean on a talented group that already made strides last season.
James Harden sees this as the ideal situation for all involved, a sentiment many others in the area share. Now, they have to wait and see what LeBron James values most, because for some, fairy-tale endings are overrated.
