Now part of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Isaiah Thomas knows it will be a big adjustment for him to be familiar with his teammates’ games. However, one thing he also has to learn quickly is their handshake game, which has been their trademark for the past couple of seasons.
During their Christmas Day game versus the Golden State Warriors, the 5-foot-9 point guard had a chance to show off his skills on it on national TV, as their starters approached him as part of their introductions. He appeared to have failed with his handshake with J.R. Smith, which the veteran shooting guard confirmed to a fan on his Twitter account.
Thomas is currently still recovering from a hip injury that has kept him sidelined since the start of the season. The Cavs are reportedly looking into having him debut for the team by the first week of January, which will be a huge boost to them and will fill their need for a point guard with Derrick Rose still inactive.
For now, Thomas can be excused from his participation from the pre-game handshakes. However, once he plays, it can be expected that his teammates will want him to be more familiar with their routines, as it pumps them up and gives them a lot of energy before competing against their opponents.
