When it comes to the greatest basketball players of all time, there are several names that must be taken into consideration. Most argue that Michael Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, is the best to ever grace the hardwood. Others might argue for names like Bill Russell (11-time champ), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, or even LeBron James. The debate could go on and on, and it will.
During his introductory press conference from the Cleveland Clinic Courts on Thursday afternoon, newly-acquired point guard Isaiah Thomas stated that he would like to add his name to the list of all-time greats.
“I want to be the greatest player to ever play,” Thomas said. “That’s how it was in Boston, and that’s how it will be in Cleveland”
Thomas’ drive to be a great player is truly admirable. His hard work and relentless motor allowed him to post some of the best numbers of his career last season. In 76 appearances for the Celtics during their 2016-17 campaign, the 28-year-old former Washington Husky standout averaged a career-high 28.9 points on 46 percent shooting from the field (career-high), 5.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and just under one steal (.9) in 33.8 minutes per outing.
Discussions as to who the greatest player in the history of the game is (or was) will rage on into the future, but it sounds like Thomas would like to be included in those conversations.
