The Cleveland Cavs have been one of the more disappointing teams thus far on the 2025-26 NBA season, currently sitting at 14-11 after a recent home loss to the Golden State Warriors’ backups. Donovan Mitchell has been playing at an elite level so far this year, but the Cavs haven’t gotten what they were hoping to out of Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen so far this year.
One player who has stepped up for Cleveland is wing Jaylon Tyson, who has infused the team with his energy, defense, and improved three-point shooting ability this season.
Recently, Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson spoke on how Tyson’s time in college helped prepare him to be able to contribute at the NBA level.
“Because we’ve got so many guys out and he’s got to do more, he’s prepared for it,” said Atkinson, per Tony Pesta of Fear the Sword.
“He can do some goofy things,” Atkinson added. “You never quite know what to expect, I think the guys really enjoy being around him though, at the end of the day, we’ve been talking about joy a lot lately, and he kinda epitomizes that with the way he plays, and the way he carries himself.”
Overall, the Cavs have certainly needed Tyson’s energy and advanced skillset so far this year as they look to navigate a rough opening act to the season, at least relative to their NBA Finals expectations.
In any case, the Cavs will next take the floor on Friday evening against the Washington Wizards.
