The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of several teams rumored to be pursuing LeBron James for the 2026-27 season. While the 41-year-old forward weighs his options, a few Cleveland Guardians players at the MLB All-Star break did their part in helping the Cavs in recruiting James.
Numerous players in MLB were asked where they think the four-time MVP will play next season. Guardians’ relief pitcher Cade Smith, second baseman Travis Bazzana, and starting pitcher Parker Messick all claimed they wanted to see James return to Cleveland.
“I hope he goes to Cleveland,” said Smith. “I think I’d love to go to a Cavs game, see him be part of that.”
“I really hope Cleveland,” Bazzana admitted. “I mean, that would do a lot for the city, and I’ve always wanted to watch LeBron. I never have live. So, to be able to go and do that in Cleveland would be amazing. Let’s say Cleveland. But I think it’s going to be Cleveland or Miami.”
“Hopefully, Cleveland,” Messick stated.

While Guardians players urge the four-time NBA champion to play for the Cavs in his 24th season in the league, the organization has some stiff competition to sign him. Other teams rumored to be in the mix for LeBron James are the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Golden State Warriors.
The 22-time All-Star is no longer in his prime, but is still a force to be reckoned with on the court. James played more of a second-option role for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, allowing Luka Doncic and even Austin Reaves at times to play as the No. 1. LeBron James ended the 2025-26 campaign averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 51.5% from the floor and 31.7% from three-point range.
